The Tata Tiago EV stands as a compelling entry into the world of electric hatchbacks, bringing a balanced offering to the market at an accessible price point. A notable feature of this electric vehicle (EV) is its versatility, with three distinct battery-motor configurations, each tailored for varying power and range requirements.
Among these, the LR (Long Range) variant emerges as the most potent, featuring a 24kWh battery pack complemented by a 75hp electric motor. With a claim of covering an impressive 315 kilometres on a single charge, the Tiago EV presents itself as a noteworthy contender in the EV landscape.
Driving Dynamics: Sport vs. City Modes
Delving into its power and performance, the Tiago EV introduces two distinct driving modes – Sport and City. When in Sport mode, the car exhibits a spirited and responsive character, boasting commendable acceleration and torque delivery. Remarkably, this compact hatchback can sprint from 0 to 60 km/h in just 5.7 seconds, a feat that truly stands out in its category.
Nevertheless, it's worth noting that the power begins to taper off after reaching the 100 km/h mark, with the top speed capped at 120 km/h. Shifting gears into City mode, the Tiago EV adopts a more composed and efficient persona, offering smoother power delivery and embracing regenerative braking to enhance its energy efficiency.
Silent Prowess with Robust Engineering
This car has a permanent magnet synchronous motor, renowned for its smooth, refined, and near-silent operation. Enhancing its performance and longevity, the vehicle is equipped with a liquid-cooled thermal management system meticulously designed to regulate the temperature of both the motor and battery pack.
This sophisticated feature ensures that it consistently delivers optimal performance, all while preserving the integrity of its critical components. Furthermore, both the motor and battery pack are rated IP67, safeguarding them against dust and water ingress.
Tailored for Urban Explorations
Positioned as an ideal urban companion, the Tiago EV shines in the cityscape with its zero tailpipe emissions, economical running costs, light controls, and compact dimensions. Furthermore, Tata Motors has not compromised on build quality, delivering a robustly constructed car with a well-designed interior adorned with a host of features.
However, it's essential to note that the Tiago EV may not be the best choice for extended highway journeys, owing to potential range anxiety and extended charging times. Additionally, some potential buyers may miss elements like alloy wheels, spare tires, and a "P" mode on the shifter.
The Verdict: A Practical, Fun, and Affordable EV
In conclusion, it represents a commendable endeavour by Tata Motors to present an everyday electric car that encompasses practicality, fun, and excellent value for money.
Its distinctive driving modes cater to various driving scenarios, while its refined electric motor and robust thermal management system underscore the vehicle's commitment to delivering a satisfying driving experience. Though it may not be the ideal choice for long highway voyages, the Tiago EV certainly holds its ground as an exceptional option for urban dwellers seeking a reliable, emission-free, and cost-effective driving solution.
The Tata Tiago EV, an electric hatchback, graces the streets with a captivating blend of sportiness and style. While it shares its DNA with the conventional Tiago, it distinguishes itself through carefully tailored EV-specific adjustments and enhancements.
Casting an immediate impression, the front grille proudly dons a distinctive blue hue, accompanied by the unmistakable EV badge, set against a honeycomb pattern. Adding to its charm, the headlamps take the form of projector units, elegantly adorned with LED daytime running lamps. The bumper makes a bold statement, featuring a substantial air dam and fog lamps that glisten with chrome surrounds.
Elegance in Profile
When we shift our focus to the Tiago EV's side profile, its resemblance to the Tiago is unmistakable, yet subtle distinctions come to light. The spotlight falls on the R14 Hyperstyle wheels, boasting a unique design heightened by subtle blue accents. Door handles painted in the body colour showcase piano black inserts, while the ORVMs incorporate integrated turn indicators. Notably, the Tiago EV offers a distinct option – a contrast roof, available in select colour combinations, adding a touch of personalization to its exterior.
Sleek and Purposeful Rear
Turning our gaze to the rear, the Tiago EV continues to impress with its sleek yet purposeful design. A roof spoiler stands proudly atop, harmoniously complemented by a high-mounted stop lamp and wraparound tail lamps.
The boot lid adds a touch of sophistication with a chrome strip housing the Tiago and EV badges. The rear bumper, adorned with black cladding and reflectors, exudes an understated elegance. An omission that reflects its eco-friendly character is the absence of an exhaust pipe, underscoring its commitment to emission-free travel.
Solid Build and Safety Assurance
The Tiago EV's exterior mirrors its robust build quality and construction, inheriting its foundation from the trusted Tiago platform. A testament to its safety, the Tiago, upon which the EV is based, has garnered an impressive 4-star rating in the rigorous Global NCAP crash tests, providing occupants with a reassuring layer of protection.
Furthermore, the Tiago EV proudly carries an IP67 rating for both its motor and battery pack, assuring potential buyers that these vital components are not only well-crafted but also resilient, as they are dustproof and waterproof.
In Conclusion: A Head-Turner with Electric Credentials
In summation, the Tata Tiago EV effortlessly captures attention with its attractive design and well-thought-out EV features. Its exterior is a harmonious blend of sporty aesthetics and purposeful enhancements, delivering an overall appealing appearance.
Beyond its stylish facade, the Tiago EV assures passengers of safety with its sturdy construction and an impressive safety rating. This electric marvel proves that eco-conscious choices can be as stylish as they are responsible, making a notable statement in the world of electric vehicles.
The Tata Tiago EV, an electric hatchback, beckons passengers into a cabin that epitomizes spaciousness and user-friendliness. Rooted in the familiar Tiago, it introduces a slew of EV-specific features and enhancements. The interior design emanates simplicity and elegance, enveloped in a harmonious black and grey colour scheme, punctuated by tasteful chrome accents.
Dashboard Brilliance
Stepping inside, the dashboard takes centre stage, showcasing a blend of functionality and aesthetics. A digital instrument cluster offers vital information at a glance, while a responsive climate control system ensures comfort even in the most dynamic conditions. The flat-bottom steering wheel adds a sporty touch, while a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system serves as the cockpit's technological heart.
This infotainment system not only supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay but also unlocks the world of connected car features through the ZConnect app. Moreover, the Tiago EV elevates the auditory experience with an impressive 8-speaker Harman audio system that delivers exceptional sound quality.
Plush Comfort and Adequate Space
Taking a seat in the Tiago EV, one is greeted by plush leatherette upholstery, imbuing the cabin with a premium touch. Front seats prove to be comfortable and supportive, generously providing ample headroom and legroom, ensuring a pleasant ride for occupants. Moving to the rear, the Tiago EV extends its commitment to spaciousness and comfort, offering passengers ample knee room and shoulder room.
However, it's important to note that taller passengers may find rear headroom somewhat limited, and the absence of adjustable headrests represents a minor drawback. Accommodating four adults comfortably is a breeze, although squeezing in a fifth passenger may be a tad snug.
Boot Space and Puncture Woes
In the cargo department, the Tiago EV boasts a respectable 242 litres of boot space, a figure that can be expanded further by folding down the rear seats. However, a unique characteristic sets it apart from conventional cars – the absence of a spare tire. This omission stems from the presence of the battery pack beneath the boot floor. In place of a spare tire, the Tiago EV provides a puncture repair kit, which, while handy for minor tire issues, may not prove as effective in cases of significant tire damage.
The Epitome of Comfort and Practicality
In summary, the Tata Tiago EV excels in offering a comfortable and practical driving experience. Its interior stands as a testament to thoughtful design and modern amenities, catering to the diverse needs of today's urban drivers. While it may pose slight challenges for taller rear passengers and lacks a spare tire, the Tiago EV continues to impress as an electric vehicle that provides a well-built and well-equipped sanctuary for those embarking on their electric journey.
